Yesterday I came home from work, and my wife greeted me as usual. While hugging her, I noticed she had a strong body odor—not a big deal, considering she’d been home with the baby all day and likely gardening outside.
Later in the evening, I offered to run her a bath. She jokingly asked, “Why, are you saying I smell?” I genuinely just wanted to do something nice since she’d had a long day and enjoys baths, but she did have an odor, so I chuckled and said, “Well…”
That’s when she got upset, saying a husband shouldn’t tell his wife she smells bad. Since then, she’s been irritated with me.
I feel like this is a bit contradictory—she’s never had an issue pointing out when my gas stinks, when I have bad breath in the morning, or even when I haven’t wiped properly. So why do I have to tiptoe around this with her? Am I overthinking, or is this an unfair double standard?
