I’m a 24-year-old guy, and I’m really thinking about breaking up with my 21-year-old girlfriend because she’s been spending an outrageous amount of money on a video game. Love and money We met back in university. she was a freshman, and I was a senior and we’ve been together ever since. Recently, we moved into an apartment together in a pretty big town, and I’m just starting a new job in a corporate setting. I’m making more than minimum wage, and thankfully, we’re not living paycheck to paycheck. Still, there are some months when I can’t save anything if unexpected expenses pop up, like birthdays or car troubles.
On her end, she works part-time, so I’m the main breadwinner. I don’t mind that since she’s still in school, but it becomes a real issue when she drops $1,600 on a video game. In the past, her spending on games was usually capped at around $300, and that came from her tips. But this time, it feels like a serious overstep. I get that it’s her money, but I often find myself covering dinner, groceries, and more than half of the rent. I just wish she’d be a bit more mindful of her spending because I genuinely want to build a future with her.
