Frustrated by my fiancé’s attitude after our doctor’s appointment – Need Couple Therapy

I (35F) am six months pregnant. Today, we went to my obstetrician for my routine check-up. I usually go alone, but this time, my fiancé joined me. He was displeased that she couldn’t provide the exact width of the baby’s bones and kept insisting on why she couldn’t. Later, he explained that it mattered to him because, according to him, bone width determines how large and strong the baby will be. Both my doctor and I found this a bit ridiculous since the only thing that truly mattered to us was that the baby was developing well, healthy, and seemingly perfect. (Need Couple Therapy?)

He fixated on this minor detail and ended up being quite disrespectful to my doctor. When we left the clinic, instead of being happy or excited, he seemed irritated and annoyed. Then, he blatantly stared at a woman walking past us and remarked on how stunning she was. He didn’t acknowledge the baby’s health, nor did he show any concern or enthusiasm for the baby or me.

I’ve already noticed that he tends to be quite self-absorbed, but he always seemed thrilled about the baby. It upset me that he had nothing to say about the baby yet had no problem ogling another woman, practically mimicking Linda Blair’s head-turning scene from The Exorcist.

I’m not sure what exactly I’m asking here, but am I just being overly emotional due to pregnancy hormones, or is he genuinely acting like a je*k?”

If this was a one-time thing, try talking to him first. But if he’s often dismissive or self-centered, couples therapy could help—especially with a baby on the way. You deserve support and respect.
